AI summary

Makes you a Purveyor of Narratives whose very presence moves the Pataphorical Ocean outside the Narratives, welcomed by the Canvas Bird and the Metaphorical Whale. You have no biological needs, are immune to all damage since you can simply step out of the Narratives to escape any fate, and can see the Bigger Picture throughout the Narratives and beyond. You can influence the Narrative Elements of Form (the story's structure and the path the Metaphorical Ink takes), Truth (the consistency that holds a narrative together, which you can muddle by inducing Dissonance) and Reason (the smouldering passions where a story's life takes root), and invoke the Fonts of Cohesion to manifest the power of the Word each Font carries.

Generated précis — the sections below are the author's original text.

Description

Touching this Stamping Press on a Stamp Pad filled with Pataphorical Ink, the two disintegrate whilst you gradually become something else entirely. You heard a cry of a bird from above and a whale’s song down below. You have obtained a single-use Appearance Change Ticket. This will allow you to change your form retroactively and make it your default. This is merely cosmetic and doesn’t give you anything worthwhile.

Effects

43
  • From the highest Echelons, you felt the change. You heard the Canvas Bird’s cry, and the Metaphorical Whale’s song. They welcomed you, oh Purveyor of Narratives, to your new role as the One who Impacts the Continuities.

  • Unlike the Canvas Bird whose very wings rain down Pataphorical Ink and the Metaphorical Whale whose tail shapes the currents of Narratives, your very presence moves the Pataphorical Ocean located outside the Narratives, doing so MOVES all the Stories around you. From the simple, smallest, or shortest stories to the very complex, largest, or longest stories, they MOVE because you MOVED.

  • You have no biological needs. Those are mere shackles made by the Narratives, after all.

  • This makes you immune to all damage done to you, as you are akin to an AI guiding the rocket sent to kill them. Not to mention, you can just move out of the Narratives just to escape a Fate Worse than Death.

  • You can see the Bigger Picture, allowing you to see without seeing throughout the Narratives and Beyond.

  • You can influence the Narrative Elements of Form, Truth, and Reason. Doing so changes the Narratives for the better or worse.

  • Form is the overall structure of the Story. It is where the Metaphorical Ink follows the path of least resistance. Outside the Narratives, Form is shown to be floating patches of land where the Metaphorical Ink flows from one end to another, creating a pathway to be walked upon or a river to swim upon. Characters of the Story are like boats that can never break away from the pathway. Certain Characters who can see using the powers of Cognition, either pre- or post-, are those whose “paper boats” have “eyes” or a lookout upon them. Breaking away from the Narrative can still happen from time to time, but that tends to be extremely hard to do.

  • Truth is the way things appear. It is by Truth that the Narrative Flow is consistent and won’t break apart in its Cohesive whole. Through this Truth, a Dissonance is made null and void.

  • By inducing Dissonance, the Truth will be muddled. An example of this happening is in the setting of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, specifically in the 7th part, where people are trying to find who shot Johnny Joestar. The Dissonance is strong enough that the Stand Spirit, whose power is Dimensional Travel to other Dimensions, can force the other Dimensions themselves to travel to the same Dimension. Only by inducing a consistent Narrative Flow can a Dissonance be nullified.

  • Reason is the true nature of the passions that smolder in the Narrative. It is where Story’s Life itself takes root. Through those roots, Pathways of Consistency will allow Metaphorical Ink to travel the flow of least resistance.

  • You can invoke the Fonts of Cohesion to manifest the power of the Word that the Font influenced. This also changes the Font of the Narrative to that of the Font of Cohesion used. Using multiple Fonts will not guarantee an immediate effect, or the effect will be outright canceled.

  • Fonts are sometimes called Styles by certain Worlds or Settings.

  • An example would be the Font known as Impact. It is a Font of Cohesion that invokes a sudden impact on the Narrative. Using that Font with the Word “Punch” will result in a sudden movement of punching someone.

  • Sometimes, your very presence creates discrepancies known as Plot Holes. You can temporarily create them to move from one Narrative Point to another. Whenever you open a Plot Hole, you fracture reality to open a portal that ever-implodes the Narrative Ink surrounding it, whilst revealing the Narrative Point you have chosen to go to.

  • Not closing a Plot Hole will leak Metaphorical Ink into the World/Setting, Canvas, if you’re a Painter; or a Page if you’re a Writer. The Metaphorical Ink will often converge into Narrative-based Lifeforms below.

  • You can create Avatars or Proxies to act upon within Narratives. Due to their nature, they are outside the Narrative Flow and can alter the Story just by going in a World or Setting.

  • You can create beings made from Metaphorical Ink that contains a Font of Cohesion to provide Emotion, allowing them to gain a Narrative Moment whenever they appear. These Narrative Lifeforms can take any form and tend to have multiple kaleidoscopic eyes made entirely out of Metaphorical Ink.

  • Whenever these Narrative Lifeforms manifest, they convert the area into a part of the Meta-Level. In this borderplace, the Narratives go out to the Metaphorical Surface and, if they are sufficiently powerful, go beyond to the Pataphorical Ocean.

  • These Narrative Lifeforms crystallize Narratives on the Metaphorical Surface into Islands of Comprehension. Just by going there is enough to change a Character’s Genre.

  • Certain individuals call them the Mononoke or Mushishi, the Bugs of Reality.

  • You are an Orator, otherwise known as a Style User or Stylist. You are a person who is able to use Word to empower yourself or bring effects into reality. An example would be by saying Storm of Blades, you force reality to manifest a vortex of bladed weaponry right in front of you or around you.

  • Orating is a very simple method of influencing the Fonts of Cohesion, and as such, the easiest to learn by others if you teach them.

  • You are a Conductor, a person who can divert the Narrative Flow by the Consistent Ripples made by the Rhythmic Pulses of Truth and Dissonance.

  • With a simple wave of your hands, you can produce sounds by clashing Metaphorical Ink with itself, allowing you to make a Melody. Through this very action, reality is shaped depending on what kind of sound you produce.

  • You may teach others how to be a Conductor, but those who are musically-inclined tend to excel at it more than others.

  • You are an Instrumentalist, a person who creates and uses Metaphorical Tools sealed in dimensional storages that can channel the Metaphorical Ink from beyond the Narratives.

  • By unsealing the Metaphorical Tool from the card, they can manifest an effect into reality related to that Tool.

  • An example would be Hole. They can manifest colored holes in the vision of the enemy, creating blind spots, or place a hole in a location connected to another in order to shorten travel time.

  • The Metaphorical Tools tend to become personalized by the influence of their Instrumentalists’ overall Cohesion to the Narratives. A person might get an ordinary towel while the other gets the power to convert trash into trees.

  • You can give the power to become an Instrumentalist to another by just giving them Metaphorical Ink and making them unseal a Metaphorical Tool.

  • The initial storage for the Metaphorical Tools is chosen by you, but it defaults to either card or tattoos and can be changed by one Instrumentalist to another.

  • Much like the Canvas Bird’s Feather/Brush and the Metaphorical Whale’s Tail/Pen, you have your own Metaphorical Tool that can channel Metaphorical Ink. Your Tool can take the shape of any object, but their function remains the same… To MOVE a Narrative to its Endpoint by understanding the Trinity of Narratives. The Form, Truth, and Reason of the current Story Arc.

  • This means you can’t draw out your Metaphorical Tool willy-nilly, and only by understanding the Trinity of Narratives can you draw it out to its truest potential and power.

  • Upon drawing out your Metaphorical Tool, the reality of the area tends to change to an abstract image of the overall Story Arc. This forces a Narrative Lifeform that has a power based on the overall structure of the current Story Arc to reveal itself. Beating this creature will cause the Narrative to skip to its Endpoint whilst simultaneously derailing the Story and its current Arc. This might also change the Genre of the Story’s Narrative to something else entirely if sufficient characters are witnessing your fight.

  • An example would be an umbrella becoming a creature that terraforms the area into a Sea of Metaphorical Ink.

  • The default appearance of the Tool is the very same Stamping Press and Stamping Pad that contains this Essence, albeit modified to be knuckledusters on each hand, with the Stamping Press in your preferred hand.

  • You can take any Characters as your companions, but expect them to be very confused when outside the Narratives. Don’t worry, they are protected from the harmful effects of being outside the Narratives.

  • Characters not taken by you will tend to lose Cohesion and disperse into Metaphorical Ink.

  • As an option, a Company of sorts would ask for Stamps that allow binding of a living thing to the one who uses it… or weaponized Stamps that can be used to attack anything.

  • They may or may not be a Cult that worships you and the other Purveyors.

  • By taking this Essence, you can’t take the other two Essences in the [Purveyors of Narratives] series: the One who Paints beyond the Canvas and the One who is Unwritten. If you, somehow, have taken all three, you will only receive one of the three. This is the price of having so much power.

  • This Essence can’t be erased, forcibly changed, removed, or stolen.

  • Fanwank responsibly. Oh wait, you’re a Purveyor of Narratives… Fanwank irresponsibly.
