AI summary
Gives you Starbound's matter manipulator, projecting a one-metre cube that mines and absorbs material and an equivalent cube for placing anything from your inventory, with the tool itself manifestable physically for immersion. It comes with an infinite, infinitely tabbed inventory holding items in perfect stasis (deactivatable for things like wine or cultivation), starting mining speed of about five seconds for stone and three for trees. Unlike the original it upgrades purely through use like an experience system, indefinitely and with room to discover new effects, and you gain the metaphysical quirks of Starbound, Minecraft and Terraria — placing blocks in midair, running wires seamlessly through walls, and crafting and gathering by their rules.

Description
While passing by Essences, a matter manipulator lays right there. Ethereal in look, exuding an aura like any other Essence. It also smells oddly like every workshop that has ever existed. Upon picking it up, it binds to you in every way possible. Knowledge of different crafting methodologies, ready to be called soon upon. You have a desire, to start gathering resources.
Effects
29You gain the abilities of a matter manipulator from Starbound. Comes with a mining capability of manifesting a 1m (3ft) x 1m (3ft) x 1m (3ft) cube like projection that is capable of mining/absorbing nearly any material, fluids, and gasses, within 1m (3ft). whether they be ore, wood, materials, energy based materials, fluids, mustard gas, bits of living beings, etc.
You are able to place any items you have from your ability within the same 1m (3ft) x 1m (3ft) x 1m (3ft) cube like projection extending 1m (3ft) from you. This normally places them in a block like form, but the shape can be changed to whatever you like for Malleable materials. Stuff like weapons, furniture, fluids, etc. can't be shape changed unless crafted.
You can also project a physical manifestation of the matter manipulator itself for the added immersion.
This of course comes with an infinite inventory with various sorting tabs ripped straight from Starbound itself. Of course, you can always add more tabs. There's no limit to that either. There is also no carry limit capacity. Especially for fluids. (have fun draining the ocean).
The inventory comes with perfect stasis of any item that enters it, but can be deactivated and sped up for stuff like wine or cultivation stuff.
The mining power starts off decent. Able to mine chunks of stone within 5 seconds and trees within 3 seconds. Power and speed are both tied together.
This is where it diverges. The original required you to gain upgrades to improve your matter manipulator. This version requires to be just used. It works similarly to an exp system. The more it's used, the better the manipulator. Of course you can still use upgrades to improve your power. Your even given a crafting recipe in order to make them. However, some of the materials can... Be rare. Not difficult to come across, but usually pricey and sometimes time consuming.
Your power can be upgraded indefinitely, even using the same upgrades to improve it further, though it's up to you to figure out how to make the upgrade better. You could even discover new effects that can be integrated.
It goes without saying that in the beginning, tougher materials will take longer to mine. Think of it like using a diamond pickax for obsidian in Minecraft. Except in this case, your speed is that of a wooden pickax. If you were to mine obsidian using the manipulator, you won't lose the material, but it will take a very long time.
Due to the nature of the essence. You gain the metaphysical quirks of Starbound. From placing blocks in mid air, to inspecting walls and seamlessly put wires in them and connect them to a generator. It even works on plumbing!
This wouldn't be a + extra if you only had the base abilities of a matter manipulator. You also gain the same metaphysical quirks from Minecraft and Terraria in terms of crafting, gathering, and placing. This even goes for strip mining, or other crazy projects, somehow creating endless tunnels and impossible structures, without worry of structural integrity. Live in an upside down pyramid if you want.
Your ability has a unique tab, which exists an infinite amount of slots to put any work station inside of it. Occupying the slots is already the base work stations you'd need from Minecraft, Terraria, and Starbound. More work stations can be acquired or even crafted to add into these slots to unlock more crafting recipes. (Even if these work stations aren't from the 3 main games mentioned above. This also includes modded stuff or any work station from fiction or IRL).
Materials needed to craft items or other workstations will spawn within your vicinity underground where possible. The more rare/valuable/out of context/etc. the material. The harder it'll be to find. Some more unique ones like hell stone requiring you to dig really deep underground in order to access it. ( corruptive type materials will not spread it's corruption unless you mine and specifically make something to spread it).
The materials you'll find will be based on your desire on what you want to craft within reason. You're much more likely to come across a huge vein of vibranium under your home then you are likely to come across even a gram of unobtainium.
Items you craft are instant, taking no real time to make. Even from something complicated and hellish requiring multiple materials, like something from Greg Tech, it'll all be crafted instantly to make a final result.
You can turn this function off if you hate yourself.
Weapons you craft, will automatically install a basic proficiency on using them into you. Improving these skills is up to you… or if you craft higher tier weapons or items and such. Then it'll boost your proficiency permanently. (This doesn't stack if for example, you craft 1'000 iron daggers).
Skills picked up this way will not degrade due to disuse.
Items crafted will always be perfectly made, with no flaws or anything (unless you purposely do so). Food will be cooked perfectly, potions will be crafted to perfection, weapons won't jam, tech integration/fusion,etc. it's all you can ask for from an item. They don't even take any durability damage! (food and drinks are the exception). You do however still need ammo to fire ranged weapons, but that can be easily circumvented if you know what you're doing.
With the right resources. More features can be added to your ability. Such as, if you gain enough soil and fertilizer. Your ability will develop a gardening feature where you can grow nearly any plant. Even those annoying cultivation ones. These will grow automatically and be harvested every second, until you run out of fertilizer. You can however craft newer variants of fertilizer to last longer or change things up. More features are waiting to be discovered! Who knows how many resources or power you can generate!
You aren't limited to crafting recipes. You're able to free form craft. In which case you can make things based on what you desire, and what materials you have on hand. It's similar to the placing systems of Minecraft/Terraria/Starbound/space engineers or if you had the Zonai hand from TOTK (you get the point). Do try not to commit too many war crimes.
This can also be used to shape materials you have on hand, so if you don't want a boring wood table, you can add your own designs to make it unique. No matter how impractical. It'll still somehow work as intended. Even if the table legs should've collapsed by now, or if said table had impractically oversized phalluses for table legs. Your imagination is the limit.
Items crafted or gained can also be uncrafted back to their base components with no loss of resource.
The final feature unique to the manipulator is the Multiversal crafting base table function (MCBTF) for short. It's a simple function that connects to any universe you know, and downloads all possible tech from that universe in its period, canonical or otherwise. However, this assimilation function takes an extremely long time. Especially with the current level of your manipulator. To make up for this, all the basic tech that could theoretically be crafted is all converted into one unique crafting table allowing you to craft the base tech of that universe. For example, link it to the marvel universe and you will be able to craft the mk0 Iron Man suit; Link it to Star Wars and you can craft blasters, etc. on top of that, once the downloading begins, a metaphysical pulse is let out which allows materials from that universe to spawn into existence within your vicinity.
How long the technology downloads depends on the strength of your manipulator and how advanced/bullshit the technology of the universe is. Tech from Cyberpunk 2077 would download significantly faster than tech from DC for example. As the download progresses, more Trees will be unlocked, as well as more materials spawning within your area.
As long as it's considered a form of technology, it can be downloaded.
Materials spawned from out of context of your universe such as vibranium, mythril, orichalcum, nth metal, etc. well, only appear within your general area. Once you leave, they will instantly despawn, unless you have some sort of miner/extractor to harvest the materials.
The logic only applies to out of context materials. If you were in the marvel universe, those materials related to marvel would naturally spawn.
The matter manipulator is bound too on on every single level possible and even impossible. It cannot be affected negatively by any outside forces. Not even braining someone with it will damages it, or even get dirty! If any attempt is made… they will be consumed and turned into resources for you to utilize.
