AI summary

Inserts you into any fictional setting you know, as an Extra built to your specifications or as an established character, if you have no other means of getting there. Its real purpose is to fix the self-insert's usual contempt for background characters: the setting's nobodies are replaced by familiar faces from other fiction, adapted to local rules but keeping their original personalities and abilities, with power levels rescaled to fit — a 'Son Goku' in Ranma 1/2 has recognisable abilities but stays within what that world permits — and characters whose powers are wholly incompatible simply do not appear. Where it is cleaner the Essence adds someone into an existing family rather than importing them whole, and it reads your subconscious to include only characters you would enjoy encountering, though you may opt out and let genuinely chaotic combinations happen instead.

Description

By drinking this potion that gives you a feeling of déjà vu, you receive the following perks:

  • If you haven’t got something that allows you to do this, you now be inserted in a fictional setting you know of, either as an Extra set up with the parameters you want, or an established character. You will receive the ability to choose another one every ten years (You can refuse, you will just get asked again a decade later), or in case you die.

  • Most Self-Inserts are egocentric, and will look down on Extras that didn't show up in the original setting. This Essence looks to solve that. Those characters will be replaced by familiar faces, namely, characters from other fictional settings you know of.

  • These characters are adapted to the setting, but will be mostly similar to their original selves in both personality and abilities. For example, if you go to the Nasuverse, you might encounter the Dead Apostle "Alucard" who works for the Hellsing Organization. Or, you might encounter the master of robotics Dr. Thomas Light in the MCU.

  • You won’t see characters whose abilities are completely incompatible with a setting.

  • The character's power levels will be adapted to the setting. You might encounter a "Son Goku" in Ranma 1/2 with similar abilities, but despite who he resembles, he would still be in the realm of what is possible in the setting.

  • If it's easier, the Essence will just add a character to a known family instead of just adding them on it's entirety. This also works if the character doesn't have family, or if the members of their family are unknown. For example, if Gojo Satoru was added to Naruto, he might become Hyuga Satoru, a Hyuga with a mutated Byakugan instead.

  • This Essence looks in your subconscious through the narrative, and will only add characters you would appreciate seeing in the setting. Alternatively, you might opt-out of this and allow truly chaotic situations to arise.
